Carrier Furnace Repair Tips:
When it comes to doing a Carrier furnace repair it is good to remember that Carrier is considered one of the “Big Three” furnace manufactures (along with Lennox furnaces and Trane furnaces). Like its counterparts, Carrier recommends that you use OEM furnace repair parts for your furnace repair (OEM = Original Equipment Manufacturer). The good news about Carrier furnaces is that they also accept most universal parts. This may help to reduce your furnace repair cost when when it comes to doing repairs. Other brands of furnaces that also accept universal parts include Goodman, York, Tempstar, Ruud, Coleman, Armstrong, Amanna, and Whirlpool furnaces. Your HVAC technician may be able to give you some pricing options for the repair depending on whether you get OEM or universal parts.
Since Carrier furnaces can accept universal parts you can call just about any heating and air conditioning contractor and they should be able to help you. Being able to call any service or warranty company can be good and bad. The good news is there are a lot of choices for you to choose from. The bad news is you may get someone who doesn’t have specialized knowledge for your Carrier furnace repair. Some repair service companies only focus on a single brand, while others work with all brands. Some heating and air conditioning companies can work with gas furnaces, oil furnaces, air conditioning units and heat pumps, but others may be able to help with heat or air conditioning only.. Newer furnaces can be quite technical and getting an HVAC technician who has been trained on your specific equipment can make a world of difference!
You might have a Carrier Furnace and not even know it!
Carrier Corporation makes more brands than just Carrier furnaces. They also make the Bryant Furnace, Day and Night Furnace, Payne Furnace and Tempstar Furnace. Carrier claims to have invented the modern day air conditioning system. Their furnaces are very similar to other brands however. In fact if you looked at a Carrier furnace, a Goodman furnace and a Trane furnace you’d see they are all very similar. For Carrier brands of furnaces many of these have nearly identical furnace designs with a different brand sticker on the outside. Since the Carrier furnace is so similar to its “sister” brands, Bryant Furnaces, Payne Furnaces and the others also accept universal parts.
One advantage Carrier has been able to capitalize on with its multiple furnace lines, is the ability to target specific market segments. Carrier has especially used it’s Bryant furnace line to target the new construction market. Carrier and Bryant have been very aggressive in the new construction market for many years and as such many newer homes will have a Carrier Furnace (even though the sticker may say Bryant, Day and Night, Payne or Tempstar). The down side to this new construction focus is that, in some HVAC technicians’ opinion, Carrier has dropped in quality. Carrier furnace repairs are becoming more common. In fact they are more common than Trane furnace repairs and Lennox furnace repairs combined.
Will a Carrier Furnace Repair make my furnace last longer?
Many builders will use Carrier’s entry level or construction grade furnaces. These furnaces are cheap in both price and quality. One HVAC company owner puts Lennox, Trane, Ammana, York and Goodman above Carrier. A Salt Lake City furnace repair company reported that nearly 70% of their repairs were made to Carrier or Carrier manufactured furnaces. To be fair to Carrier the Salt Lake City furnace market is dominated by Carrier, Bryant and Payne furnaces. Other markets such as the Denver furnace repair market or the Seattle furnace repair market may have a different mix of furnaces.
These builders’s grade furnaces can last for many years if the furnace installation is done correctly and if the furnace receives regular tune-ups and maintenance. The average furnace life is 15-20 years. Higher quality furnaces made by Lennox or Trane may last even longer. Other cheaper furnaces may die much sooner.

Keeping your furnace filter clean can dramatically increase the life span of a furnace. It can also help you avoid costly furnace repairs. It is also smart to keep the proper number of heating vents open to allow proper furnace ventilation.
